From the top of a particular giant, bald rock in a particular forested park, one can see overlapping hill on overlapping hill, layered over the span of Lake Superior. The birches and shrubs and pines fill the landscape with lavenders, creams, greens, golds and a beautiful rusty-red-violet. It's such a lovely place to get to be.

The park is Hartley–an old favorite in Duluth, Minnesota. And this spot is called Rock Knob. This is the view.

Perched on the north shore of Lake Superior, Fika Coffee roasts delicious beans and work out of a beautiful vision. This illustration was a Christmas card and print.

Commissioned by a local nordic skiing race, this illustration captures its beautiful drifts of snow, lean athletes on two splinters of wood and a crowd of frosty onlookers, cheering them on.

There are some pretty visionary sisters who own a flower shop in Duluth. They throw a big block party every year, inviting neighborhood folks, loads of local businesses, good eats, drinks and more. I've had the pleasure of creating their posters for this event for the last two years.

There's a certain neighborhood in the city I live where the streets tilt even steeper. The houses truly perch over rock ledges. And if one were to strap on some roller skates, they had better say their prayers. It's called Goat Hill. Rumor has it that at one time goats pranced among the homes and sharp inclines. Today just the brave folks remain and their four-wheeled drive cars that take them home.

This was originally created as a promotional piece for a COGGS event (Cyclists of Gitchee Gamee Shores), sharing the exciting news of them building the longest urban trail progress behind their fabulous urban trail project.

We think about God's light in stars atop Christmas trees or belonging to certain moments or people or places, but that brilliant goodness, that welcoming warmth–it reaches and reaches, quietly illuminating everything, everywhere. I imagine even the fish below winter's ice experience its glow and are reminded again that they are fish and that is good.

A local flower shop had a big milestone and I was pleased as punch to be asked to create the party poster!

This was my parents' cabin for a bit. They lived in it with no running water, real heat or toilet well into October while a house got built just behind it. This illustration was a little way to remember what was and the quaint little building they called home for a bit.

I am just so glad when I get to collaborate with a business that oozes care, vision, goodness, humility, kindness. Wild Hollow Farm is one of those. Tucked inland from the south shore of Lake Superior, these guys are growing beautiful things in so many ways.

Some really kind folks commissioned me to illustrate their family cabin as a gift. It's a special place to them and it's not hard to see why–beautiful gardens, a peaceful perch over a river, a beautiful built home.

When you live in a city perched on a steep hill and overlooking the greatest of lakes, its beauty longs to be reflected somehow. This is a simple, layered reflection of the place I call home, Duluth, Minnesota.

A realtor in the Twin Cities asked me illustrate a promotion piece that included symbols from Minneapolis, Saint Paul and some of the wonderful places in and around them.

I recently learned that this park is one of the country's oldest city block parks. Before that I just knew I loved this little city park perched on the hillside of Duluth. It's called Portland Square. With it's spray of sidewalks, fountain, barbecue grills and swings, the most beautiful mix of people congregate. Cycling commuters, skinned-knee kiddos, the guy holding the boombox on his shoulder, terriers, book readers, folks schlepping groceries and on a break.

There are wintry, dark mornings when my husband quietly gets up and totes himself and a bike to some frosty, still-starlit location. A handful of friends and their bikes are waiting, bundled and breathing out clouds of warm air. They call it Dawn Patrol. I've never attended myself, but I imagine certain parts of the trail look like this : tall, naked trees layered in between shadows, pointy evergreens and the trail slipping in and out of visibility under the moon. I imagine it's both serene and invigorating.

This illustration was done to promote a COGGS (Cyclists of Gitchee Gamee Shores) event, in which folks donated money to the cause of urban trailbuilding and accessibility to trails for all.

Each year on Give to the Max Day in Minnesota folks are invited to support organizations of all types with money. At one particular Give to the Max party in Duluth, oodles of outdoor groups get the support and the hiking, biking, skiing, surfing, paddling and hiking opportunities are boosted. These illustrations have promoted the event over the last three years.

A Twin Cities school was born and I had the privilege of creating its little mark!

There's an annual festival in which rhubarb reigns. I was asked to design the shirt one year and loved that the proceeds went to support a local homeless shelter. I also love when turtles hang with rabbits.
